Camp Sunshine 2016 - UGA Undergraduate Admissions
Camp Sunshine 2016 - UGA Undergraduate Admissions Camp Sunshine 2016 It is that time of year again, when I will be away from the blog for a week while I volunteer at Camp Sunshine, a camp for children with cancer. This will be my 21st year volunteering for the summer camp part of Camp Sunshine, and I have had a wonderful time over the years working with this program. This year, I will be a cabin counselor for seven 12-year old boys (along with one other counselor), and I am guessing I will be involved in a great deal of mountain biking, fishing, tennis, gold panning, going up the climbing wall (or just watching as my campers go up), archery, dodgeball, arts and crafts, and a lot of singing. If you have never heard 200+ campers and 150+ volunteers singing and dancing to Peanut Butter Jelly Time, you are missing a great event. So, for the next week or so, I will be out of communication with this blog. Once I am back, I will begin posting/commenting/replying again! Go Dawgs!

How to Create Social Media Posts That Get Noticed
Some small businesses are all but ready to give up on social media marketingââ¬âwith good reason. It's frustrating to watch post after carefully prepared post go unnoticed by legions of (un)adoring fans. But we're convinced that social media promotion can play an important role in marketing campaignsââ¬âand it doesn't have to take all day. Related: How to achieve brand consistency on social media If some of your posts have gone unnoticed, you're not alone. We've had our fair share of flops. Like this one: Maybe people who are nervous presenters are also nervous retweeters? Or this one: Our only Facebook "like" for this blatant (but beautiful) piece of propaganda came from David Stauffer, our own creative director. Still, we've enjoyed some relative success. Ever seen a post with more shares than likes, like this one? Since getting real results from social media can feel like such a gamble, many businesses shy away from it in favor of more traditional marketing techniques. Is social media worth it? No matter how you look at it, maintaining a positive presence on social media is an uphill battle, especially for small businesses who don't have the resources to devote one or more full-time employees just to social media. So, what's the secret? Success comes from a combination of factors, including the quality of the content itself, the underlying marketing strategies (think: giveaways and crowdsourcing), the product and timing. When these factors do work together, social media can change the very fabric of a company's marketing strategy. For instance, t-shirt maker Sevenly donates $7 to charity for every shirt sold. Each week, the company teams up with a different charity and designs a unique t-shirt to match. Their posts on social media tend to be well-shared, since individuals who can't afford to donate can help the cause by simply sharing the post: The point is that social media content will only be as effective as your business model and marketing strategy empower it to be. Once you have that strategy in place, supporting and implementing it on social media is actually the easy (and fun) part. Here's how you can create awesome content for your social media sites in just minutes. Step 1: Pick a template After logging in to Lucidpress, click the drop-down arrow next to +Document to view our free templates. Click Social media, then pick the template that corresponds with the social media site you'll be posting to (this ensures that the image has the correct dimensions). Alternatively, you can save time by creating a single document, then linking back to it in each of your posts. I'll be building my content from this Facebook post template: Step 2: Customize In this step, switch out the template's content with your own. Then, adjust effects, fonts & positioning to get the perfect layout. Since I want to emphasize my product's creative capacities, I'm going to make a meme about the power of imagination. First, I double-click to replace the text with my own. I test out several fonts before selecting Hill House. Next, I delete the background photo. After dragging and dropping an image I found on Pixabay onto the canvas, I right-click it and select Send to back so it doesn't cover my text. Finally, I add a text box on the bottom right to include our brand. Now it's ready: Step 3: Publish & share How to share & publish your documents in Lucidpress Before you can share your document on social media, you'll need to publish it with a unique URL. Click Share in the top-right corner, then click Publish under the On the web tab. Finally, go to the On social media tab to share your brand-new content on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or LinkedIn. Type a short, custom description for each post you make. If you're not sure how to adapt your post's text for each site, consult this now-famous comparison of social media sites: And that's it! You'll be creating and sharing social media posts like a proââ¬âwithout spending hours in complicated design software. Ready to make your own social media posts? These free templates are a great starting point.

Improve Affirmative Action by Removing Quotas and Racial...
Improve Affirmative Action by Removing Quotas and Racial Preferences Affirmative action has assisted many members of minority groups in creating equal opportunities in education and employment. Who could object to assisting these minorities, who suffered years of discrimination, in getting the equal opportunity they deserve? The problem is, affirmative action promotes racial preferences and quotas which cause mixed emotions. One time supporters of affirmative action are now calling out ââ¬Å"reverse discriminationâ⬠. If we want a stronger support for affirmative action we need to get rid of the preferential treatments. The back bone of affirmative action began with the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment on December 18, 1865. Theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦11). The order directed employers to take affirmative action to ensure a ââ¬Å"color blindâ⬠method of hiring and promotion in government contracts. This began a concerted effort to abolish discrimination. With Executive Order of 10925 came the Presidentââ¬â¢s Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity (PCEEO). The Committee was given the authority to enforce affirmative action mandates by being able to cancel or suspend government contractors. Kennedy, mostly endorsing a ââ¬Å"race conscious affirmative action,â⬠kept away from racial preferences and quotas (Lugg, 1997, p. 11). On July 2, 1964, President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (ââ¬Å"Federal laws,â⬠1998). Title VII of the act prohibits employment discrimination based on race, sex, national origin, or religion. Title VI prohibits public access discrimination, leading to school desegregation. Title VIII is the original federal fair housing law, later amended in 1988. However, even after this and other legislation, blacks, Hispanics, and Native Americans were still underrepresented in employment and education (Dorsen, 1994). President Johnson also put through Executive Order 11246 which ended coerced non-specific minority hiring and adopted ââ¬Å"hard and fastâ⬠quotas (Lugg, 1997, p 13). The Rude French Myth
Its hard to think of a more common stereotype about the French than the one about how rude they are. Even people who have never set foot in France take it upon themselves to warnà potential visitorsà about the rude French. The fact is that there are polite people and there are rude people in every country, city, and street on Earth. No matter where you go, no matter who you talk to, if you are rude, they will be rude back. Thats just a given, andà Franceà is no exception. However, there is no universal definition of rudeness. Something rude in your culture may not be rude in another, and vice versa. This is key when understanding the two issues behind the rude French myth. Politeness and Respect When in Rome, do as the Romans do are words to live by. In France, make an effort toà speak some French. No one expects you to be fluent, but knowing a few key phrases goes a long way. If nothing else, know how to sayà bonjourà andà merci, and as manyà polite termsà as possible. Dont go to France expecting to be able to speak English to everyone. Dont tap someone on the shoulder and say Hey, wheres the Louvre? You wouldnt want a tourist to tap you on the shoulder and start jabbering away in Spanish or Japanese, right? In any case, English may be the international language, but it is far from the only language, and the French, in particular, expect visitors to know this. In cities, you will be able to get by with English, but you should use whatever French you can first, even if its justà Bonjour Monsieur, parlez-vous Anglais? Related to this is the ugly American syndrome; you know, the tourist who goes around yelling at everyone in English, denouncing everyone and everything French, and eatingà only at McDonalds? Showing respect for another culture means enjoying what it has to offer, rather than searching for signs of ones own home. The French are very proud of their language, culture, and country. If you are respectful of the French and their heritage, they will respond in kind. French Personality The other aspect of the rude French myth is based on a misunderstanding of the French personality. People from many cultures smile upon meeting new people, and Americans in particular smile a lot to be friendly. The French, however, dont smile unless they mean it, and they dont smile when talking to a perfect stranger. Therefore, when an American smiles at a French person whose face remains impassive, the former tends to feel that the latter is unfriendly. How hard is it to smile back? the American might wonder. How rude! What you need to understand is that its not meant to be rude, but is simply the French way. The Rude French? If you make an effort toà be politeà by speaking a bit of French, asking rather than demanding that people speak English, showing respect for French culture, and dont take it personally when your smile isnt returned, youll have a hard time finding a rude French person. Youll be pleasantly surprised to discover how very friendly and helpful the natives are.

Conservative Views On Liberal And Conservative - 1242 Words
I am far from being certain about how liberal or conservative I am or will be.
